Adjudication Giving or pronouncing a judgment or decree, or the rendering of a decision on a matter before a court. Non compos mentis Not of sound mind; insane. Dissent A term commonly used to denote the disagreement of one or more judges of a court of appeals with the decision of the majorityA term commonly used to denote the disagreement of one or more judges of a court of appeals with the decision of the majority Subpoena duces tecum An official order to appear in court (or at a deposition) at a specific time. Failure to obey a subpoena to appear in court is punishable as a contempt of court. Hearing A formal proceeding (generally less formal than a trial) with definite issues of law or of fact to be heard. Objection The act of taking exception to some statement or procedure in trial or other proceeding. Used to call the court's attention to improper evidence or procedure. Fourth Amendment The 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects every person against unreasonable search and seizure by government officials Burglary The unlawful breaking into or entering of a building or dwelling with the intent to commit a serious crime or theft.
